As a Carrier Sales Representative, you will be responsible for securing carriers to transport freight for customers. You'll work closely with shippers and carriers to ensure efficient and timely delivery of goods while maximizing profitability for the company.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Carrier Procurement: Source and negotiate with carriers to secure capacity for shipments. Build and maintain relationships with a network of carriers to ensure reliable service.

  2. Load Coverage: Coordinate the movement of freight by matching available carriers with customer shipments. Utilize load boards, transportation management systems (TMS), and other tools to find appropriate carriers for each load.

  3. Rate Negotiation: Negotiate rates and terms with carriers to ensure competitive pricing while maintaining profitability. Evaluate market conditions and carrier performance to optimize pricing strategies.

  4. Customer Communication: Communicate with customers to understand their transportation needs and provide updates on load status. Address any concerns or issues related to transportation.

  5. Carrier Management: Manage carrier relationships by monitoring performance, resolving disputes, and providing feedback for improvement. Ensure carriers comply with contractual agreements and meet service level expectations.

  6. Documentation: Generate and manage transportation documentation, including rate confirmations, bills of lading, and other required paperwork. Ensure accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.

  7. Problem Resolution: Proactively identify and resolve transportation-related issues, such as delivery delays, equipment shortages, or route changes. Implement contingency plans to minimize disruptions to shipments.

  8. Data Analysis: Analyze transportation data to identify trends, opportunities for improvement, and cost-saving measures. Use insights to optimize routing, carrier selection, and operational efficiency.

  9. Interaction with customers, carriers, and internal stakeholders via phone, email, and in-person meetings.

  10. A fast-paced and dynamic work environment with changing priorities and tight deadlines.

Job requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, logistics, business administration, or a related field preferred.

  • Previous experience in carrier sales, freight brokerage, or logistics coordination.

  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to build rapport and influence others.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency in transportation management systems (TMS) and other relevant software.

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Knowledge of transportation regulations and industry best practices.

  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and make data-driven decisions.
