We are seeking a driven Carrier Sales Representative to manage the carrier (sell-side) of daily shipments. This role involves sourcing, negotiating with, and managing carriers across multiple freight modes, including FTL dry van, reefer, flatbed, expedite (box and sprinter), and drayage. The ideal candidate has prior carrier sales experience at a 3PL or freight brokerage and is looking to grow with an expanding team.
Key Responsibilities:
Select, source, and negotiate with carriers to secure proper coverage of shipments daily
Build strategic relationships with potential and existing carrier partners
Negotiate competitive freight rates while ensuring quality service and capacity
Manage carrier communications and escalations throughout the shipment lifecycle
Align strategically with the team for shipments needing immediate attention, prebooking, or additional work to secure coverage
Log offers and options for shipments and communicate alternatives to shipment stakeholders
Make quick and effective decisions in the best interest of the business and customers
Provide feedback on rate trends across various freight markets
Share real-time updates on capacity metrics for assigned shipments
Keep internal teams informed of market conditions and carrier availability
Ensure carriers comply with company requirements for tracking, paperwork collection, and documentation
Monitor carrier performance and address any service issues proactively
Maintain accurate records of carrier interactions and agreements in the system
Job requirements
Prior experience in carrier sales at a 3PL or freight brokerage (required)
Proven track record of sourcing carriers and negotiating freight rates
Strong relationship-building skills with carrier partners
Excellent communication and negotiation abilities
Ability to make quick, effective decisions in fast-paced environments
Multi-tasking skills to manage multiple shipments and carriers simultaneously
Knowledge of various freight modes (dry van, reefer, flatbed, expedite)
Proficiency with TMS (Transportation Management Systems)
Self-motivated with a drive to succeed and grow
Team player with a collaborative mindset
Working conditions:
Work schedule: Monday-Friday, 06:00 -15:00 CST
